Bad Tattoo

Before I met you Nobody ever got so close but then I let you Come to my rescue and I started to expect you To be the hands that held me up but then you turned off all the lights and walked away And I don't blame you You were just as scared as I was, and I could shame you But I was a fool to think that I could ever change you, rearrange you and I'm finally over it But there's some things that the water won't wash off Just like a bad tattoo I'll bear the mark of you The scars you left upon my skin Are proof I let the wrong one in But they make me proud Cos they show that I won't be kept down I'm wearing you Just like a bad tattoo In September I thought I would be hung up on you forever But I pulled myself together I got better Come December Dyed my hair and dried my eyes But there's some things that the water won't wash off Just like a laughter line in the morning light Like the ear you pierced for the second time Like the face you make when you change your mind You'll be there for the rest of my life Just like a bad tattoo I'll bear the mark of you The scars you left upon my skin Are proof I let the wrong one in But they make me proud Cos they show that I won't be kept down I'm wearing you Just like a bad tattoo And even though I am still healing I'd do it all over I'd do it all over again And though there's a scar on my heart well It came out of love It came out of love I'm wearing you just like a bad tattoo
