Never Going Back

I gave it all my energy My younger days consumed For you Uh huh I can’t believe I’m saying this right now But we’re through Yes it’s true Uh huh I finally found a place to call my own I’ve made it through on my way back home It took some time to learn to let you go Never going back Never going back Never going back To that place again We were all sitting on top of the hill Had a good run Ink dried out for the quill Everybody moved on But I’m awfully still Probably cause I’m heart broken From the art that we built We’re prolly one of the greatest bands That will never be known Remember when our music Changed a life at a show When our passion was pure On fire unhindered We could face any giant All facts no printer My my What a time to be alive I might be a bitter guy Who can’t surrender his pride I promise it was far from delusion For some a pipe dream But for us a revolution Don’t forget the one time we almost got signed But got rejected cause they couldn’t market our essence We don’t need to look to labels to affirm us What they missed out on then doesn’t concern us I gave it all my energy My younger days consumed For you Uh huh I can’t believe I’m saying this right now But we’re through Yes it’s true Uh huh I finally found a place to call my own I’ve made it through on my way back home It took some time to learn to let you go Never going back Never going back Never going back To that place again Lately I’ve been laughing at the corporations who care In the world of smoke and mirrors they don’t want you to stare Cause if we dig a little deeper we’ll see the stars aligning I’m finding you care more for your bottom line Not surprised The revolution won’t be televised Virtue signal ‘til you cross your t’s and dot the i’s I was taught to minimize so you don’t know us Now a target’s on our back didn’t think we wouldn’t notice The ex POTUS encouraged the next onus To see our grandmothers as your f***ing opponent I tried to stay neutral like the ones in the church I tried to practice what I preach but our community’s hurting And I can’t shake this feeling we’re this necessary evil On your bad day I pray you see us as people Why wait for elite ones to speak for us In this deep void our meek voice is enormous I gave it all my energy My younger days consumed For you Uh huh I can’t believe I’m saying this right now But we’re through Yes it’s true Uh huh I finally found a place to call my own I’ve made it through on my way back home It took some time to learn to let you go Never going back Never going back Never going back To that place again
