Hang On To Your Emotions

When your imagination has too much to sayWhen the chill of the night meets the sweat of the dayAnd you have trouble understanding what other people have to sayYou'd betterHang on to your emotion, hang on to your emotionWhen a demagogue inside your head has taken chargeAnd by default what you say or do is criticizedAnd this litany of failures is recited a thousand timesYou'd betterHang on to your emotion, hang on to your emotionCould it be you've never felt like thatThat your mind's a cage inside the cage of catThat spits and scratches all it can get atAnd that's you and your emotionsCould it be you've never felt like thatYour mind's a cage inside the cage of ratRabidly trying to get at youAnd your emotions, you and your emotionWhen your imagination has too much to sayWhen that facile voice inside your head says give your life awayYou might think to ask how it got that wayWhat books it has read that make it that wayAnd where it got the right to speak to anyone that wayYou'd betterHold on to your emotions, hold on to your emotionWhen a night city's breeze blows across the roomAnd a 5 A.M. moon and sun start their swoonYou hear your lover's breathNot a moment too soonYou get toRelease all your emotions, you get toLet go of your emotions andRelease all your emotions, you'd betterLet go of your emotionsRelease, I wanna let goI wanna release now
