Let Me Forget

With a tender lilt and gentleness of pitch At range with the doves and the sweetest of chimes Your voice is ringing clear and vibrant with the gifts Of eloquence and tone and refinement Fluid are your hands with ever shifting pace So tentatively contemplate the limits of their grace Please forgive me if I stare As I can scarce believe my fortune I've been staring at these pages for so long With nothing to show for it In this wistful season When I so dearly needed to remember I somehow caught a fateful glimpse And faithfully I did surrender And with agony of death You brought me breath But you gotta let me forget now The more that I invest I feel I am not wrong Your pathos and complexity deserve their place in song But I appeal now to the gods And to you through kindred thought That you would gather up your beauty And make motions to relieve me Sweet Helen of my verse and all that you have wrought Yet to this image I return As if by magic I've been caught In this wistful season When I so dearly needed to remember I somehow caught a fateful glimpse And faithfully I did surrender And with agony of death You brought me breath But you gotta let me forget now Improbable my muse, confounding and persistent With such sobbing and refusals I have tried so to evict you With gravity and poise so firmly you hold ground So I employ you as my guide As you abide so I am bound In this wistful season When I so dearly needed to remember I somehow caught a fateful glimpse And faithfully I did surrender And with agony of death You brought me breath But you gotta let me forget now Let me go You gotta let me forget now
