When a longing that was made to thrive Once made alive, it began to wither Saw your beauty rare so as to alarm despair Dark and aware and I drew you hither With reverent thought and eyes a-brim I'm lost as I now behold This vision of, no thought of love But days of gold, fresh with hope And eyes of black, skin like honey Sweet and soft to hold me aloft To swoon and sing to wring and strum Now for you on the wood and string He once brought me when all was young If you allow this reverie I cannot help but render thee My striving prose which will disclose My weakness and unwillingness To fight against this agony I conjured you and oh, now I am lost Sweet foundling, I am tallying the cost It's just my sanity I'm haunted now by will and choice The sound of my voice and this dull regretting My phantom seed, my devilish need I'll never recover this blood you're letting You are sleeping, you are jade Held in another weatherspace With claret mouth in peace apart I swear at heart to keep from you This fallow muse you've brought to spark How I wish I'd never seen your face I'm powerless against your maddening ways Which have their way with me I conjured you and oh, now I am lost Sweet foundling, I am tallying the cost It's just my sanity
