Simple Twist Of Fate

They sat together in the parkAs the evening sky be darkShe looked at him and he felt a sparkTingle to his bones, it was then he felt aloneAnd wished that he'd gone straightWatch out for a simple twist of fateThey walked along by the old canalWas so confused, I remember wellStopped into a strange hotelWith a neon burning brightHe felt the heat of the nightIt hit him like a freight trainMoving with a simple twist of fateA saxophone someplace far off playedShe is walking under the arcadeThe light bust through a beat-up shadeWhere he was waking upShe dropped a coin into the cupOf a blind man at the gateForgot about a simple twist of fateHe woke up and the room was bareHe didn't see her anywhereHe told himself that he didn't carePushed the window open wideFelt an emptiness insideTo which he just could not relateBrought on by a simple twist of fateHe hears a ticking of the clockAnd walks along with a parrot that talksHunts her down by the waterfront docksWhere the sailors all come inMaybe she'll pick him out againOh, how long must he waitOne more time for a simple twist of fatePeople tell me it's a sinTo know and feel too much withinI still believe she was my twinBut God, I lost the ring, she was born in springBut I was born too lateBlame it on the simple twist of fate
